What is Nano?
As per ISO/BIS definition, any particle that has at least one of its dimensions in the size range of 1 nm to 100 nm (1 nm = 10-9Â m) is termed as nanoparticle. As per recent DBT guidelines on biosafety, these dimensions could be extended up to 1000 nm if the material possess improved properties or phenomena because of the effect of dimensions.
Nano For Agriculture:
Numerous references in the literature demonstrate the direct uptake of nanoparticles through roots or leaves and subsequent distribution throughout the plant system. This led to the concept that nanoparticles can act as delivery vehicles to deliver nutrition or pesticides to plants. In the case of crop nutrition, the plant has very specific requirements, and the nutrient has to be in the plant's available form. Crops take up and use almost exclusively nutrients as ions. Nano fertilizers can be prepared by entrapping these nutrients into nano polymer capsules, nano clay material, or other nano templates and be delivered directly inside plants.
In the case of conventional fertilizers, low nutrient use efficiency (NUE) is due to nutrient losses as a result of leaching, fixation, and volatilization. On the other hand, nanoparticles are taken up as a whole, either through roots or stomata. Hence, if these nano particles are loaded with nutrients, there is no loss of nano nutrients as compared to bulk soil-based application. Due to their small size and high surface area, Nano fertilizers are taken up through stomata and cuticles as-is and without loss.
Action of Nano DAP
Nano DAP addresses the critical requirement of phosphorus in the chlorophyll to facilitate photosynthetic activity. Nano DAP consists of particles of polymer-encapsulated DAP, which are of nano size (< 100 nm). These nano-sized particles are suspended in an aqueous solution, which can be sprayed onto the leaves of the plant after dilution. These particles enter the plant through cuticular pores or stomata and then penetrate the cell membranes through endocytosis. Once inside the cell, the nano DAP particles release the DAP slowly and ensure that an adequate concentration of phosphorus is available in the chlorophyll for photosynthesis. As the requirement of P for photosynthesis is very small, the small quantity supplied through Nano DAP is adequate to fill any gap in P supply from the soil.
Coromandel Nano DAP
Nano DAP is a premium in-house product that has been invented and manufactured based on cutting-edge nanotechnology. It is a unique liquid fertilizer product that contains nanoparticles of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP). It is a source of nitrogen and phosphorus - 2 key primary nutrients essential for the growth of crops. The small size of Nano DAP (< 100 nm) and high surface area drive the easy absorption by plant leaves. This novel nano-formulation helps in better crop growth and yield, reduces environmental burden, and increases farmer profitability.
